I read this book by accident.

Need another excuse to treat yourself to a new book this week? by Brown, Rita Mae. Molly, ever disappointed but nonplussed by the reactionary attitudes she inevitably encounters, in turn unveils how the moral and social values of these figures—and by extension society itself—is a confused and contradictory entity in its taboos and prejudices. The resolution with her mother felt false as well. She is extremely scornful of those who do not share her own views about what is and is not a worthwhile life, and she can be truly cruel at times.

Her definition for being a lesbian seemed to be that she enjoyed sex with women more than she did sex with men, (though a lot of the sex with either gender was unsatisfactory to her). Seeing as I've been dating women for awhile, I figured I'd finally read this classic of lesbo lit. Her father, Carl, truly loves her, and encourages her, despite her mother's fear and ignorance.

Rubyfruit Jungle book.

In short, I was confused as hell.i swear i already wrote a review of this book but maybe not. This just felt cold and artificial. 4.5 out of 5 stars. Molly is an illegitimate child raised by her vindictive aunt Carrie & kind uncle Carl. Literally and metaphorically, as was trapped in a foreign hospital without anything to read. The humor of the time was different, the references were different, shock value was different, risque was different. 167 customer ratings.

This is my first experience reading Rita Mae Brown. What begins as a not-too-bad lesbian coming of age story evolves into an anti-heterosexual, anti-motherhood manefesto. Her head is so big that she couldn't fit through a doorway and her mouth so outsized she could eat a banana sideways. The N word pops up about 2-3 times, but it's always by some racist that you're supposed to hate. Start by marking “Rubyfruit Jungle” as Want to Read: We’d love your help. I really debated whether to give this one or two stars because my intense negative reaction to the book doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't written decently. I like the end. It was a good book that I had not heard of before, thanks library book club. The emotions in them are so raw. Read honest and unbiased product reviews from our users.

She was alone and had a qualification in an industry which was too sexist to let her get a job in her field. I know this is a memoir, but Molly starts out rock hard and stays that way: never is she troubled in the least by doubt or uncertainty.

Tatiana is not being fair. The raw insight and wonderful narrative drew me in from the first page! Bright but downtrodden by her harsh mother, Molly helps out her poor family but dreams of one day escaping to college. As such, when young Molly declares in the first pages of the novel "it makes no difference where I came from.

I'm here, ain't I?" Strongly recommend it!I liked this book and its flinty protagonist, Molly. Who doesn't love the irrepressible Molly Bolt?

In short, I was confused as hell.I read this book the year it was published.

I first heard of this book & author from one of my all-time fave movies, " Educating Rita". It was the first lesbian classic that I didn't love.

A short summary of Rita Mae Brown's Rubyfruit Jungle This free synopsis covers all the crucial plot points of Rubyfruit Jungle. Many of these characters quickly become hung up on who Molly is, where she came from, what she stands for, and, more often than not, are bewildered by the very potent sexual effect she has on them. So I admire her brio, her bravura, and dare I say it---her balls.

What I dislike: she's just too conceited.

October 1980 The book was published in multiple languages including English, consists of 246 pages and is available in Mass Market Paperback format.

Death of a Salesman Much Ado About Nothing Romeo and Juliet The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn The Odyssey.

She seemed to be miserable one day, then outstanding the next, and then willing to throw it all away, to declare she was a lesbian, when she knew what the reaction would be. My sister had recently come out to me, and my head was spinning. It took real bravery to write this type of book, and Molly is an incredible character.
