Are you ever switching AF-area mode I just recently set up Function 2 button on the front of my D5 to switch to Group Auto Focus Area Mode - but that mode is only in effect WHILE I've got that button pressed down. Nikon generously gives you several options on most cameras, including function (fn) buttons, and the depth of field preview button on the front of the camera.
Doesn't take away, that my nose is in the way for my thump when focusing the D7000 - or vice versa.
Running in AFC and 3d hitting Fn1 then allows to set the area you want to be tracked and in AF very simple. Always back button focus. Both the AF-ON button and the shutter release, by default, are activated so you can still use the AF-ON button if you don’t disengage focus.
I use the Pv button on both my cameras, so technically I'm using front button focus.Yes. I know, the D750 is a bit larger, though.....I've been experimenting with a bit lately - but I find it hard to change over - because I figure I've taken about 7 million photos since 2002 - and all those have been shutter button half press focus.Last week I was playing with trying this new method - but when I realized that I would also have to reach with one of my other fingers to the Fn button and keep that held down when I wanted to temporarily switch Auto Focus Area Modes,That I don't get.

But with autofocus set to single point/3d with face detection on this control f1 setting, the focus point never moved/tracked with my subject–the single selector stayed where I initially put it and never moved at all. I don't even remember how to set my camera up for focusing with the shutter button.I was always, but then with more AF points I went back and forth to use my thumb to move the AF points whilst focusing.

This joystick button can move the focus points around within the frame but you can also program it to focus … One thing that’s worth noting is that the AF Mode (AF-C continuous, AF-S single shot) isn’t affected by these buttons. The third option is the one we are most interested in so move your selector down to that one.In this menu you can see that you’re able to choose the type of autofocus function that is activated by the press of the AF-ON button. The result is all images are sharpand you forget to let go, even though it’s trying to track,because it’s not moving, it’s still going to be sharp. Obviously if want a DX / custom crop, do this in Post.Final point – In yet more YASDITs, Nikon reversed away from almost all these BBF options in the Z6 and Z7.
This is the clumsy control camera-left + scrolling the front-wheels!?! Now the joystick can be mapped to AF activation I can do both.Back button focus allows you to focus anywhere and recompose your shot, then shoot.
With the own sat still you would use a single AF point to make sure you are getting your focus in the right place to get nice sharp eyes. Kind of...

A, C and D are identical in TBF (also AutoISO), except A = 14bit lossless RAW versus D = 12bit lossless RAW.

Exactly which button you choose for the second button is again, up to you. But there is no AF-On option in the D850’s sub-selector menu.I’m afraid I don’t have a D850 here so that is going to be a tough one to troubleshoot, but I don’t believe that this is an option. And it may well be the model best positioned to convert remaining F-mount holdouts to Z-mount.The Canon EOS R6 doesn't quite live up to the full promise of its do-everything specs, but it's a great photographers' camera.The Sony a9 II didn't make a huge splash in the industry when it launched, but it's certainly left an impression on us. In my method – I have one permanent (single point focus on the joy-stick) but I have flexibility to use the AF-ON to whatever Dynamic range I chooseI’m keen to get your feedback as I dont really know if I can use the AF-ON button in this wayI’m sorry but I think this is going to fall into the category of things I can’t test. 3
