Lovely writing, excellent storytelling, sad times and story.Ernest J. Gaines was a novelist, short story writer, and teacher. It was excellent too. There were a lot of layers to this story, and it was beautifully written in an understated way.Not far into this book, it´s easy to tell that Marcus will be killed and his presence at the plantation will wreak havoc on its residents.
